Today, our Senior pupils had the wonderful opportunity to gain valuable insights into improving their technique and musicality through a full day of workshops, masterclasses, and performances with pianist Tran Le Bao Quyen.

During the masterclass with the pianist, our pupils performed and received invaluable feedback on a wide range of areas, including musical sensitivity, creative thinking, performance skills, and the confidence to shine on stage. They learned new approaches to fingering fast passages, techniques such as hand pedaling and accenting notes to shape musical expression. They also explored how to create atmosphere, bring out emotions with strength and sensitivity, and refine the use of dynamics.

Our pupils have gained so much from her coaching and from hearing the Pathétique and other repertoire brought to life in such a vivid way. Experiences like this are truly inspiring,” shared Ms Jane Humberstone, Teacher of Music.

Reflecting on the experience, Ms Bao Quyen shared: “I was deeply impressed by pupils’ energy, sense of responsibility, and drive to improve. Their determination to play the piano with the highest level of professionalism was remarkable. It was truly inspiring to witness teenagers who already approach music with such maturity and dedication.”

The day concluded with captivating performances of Chopin’s Nocturne, Op. 48 No. 1 by Ms Bao Quyên and Spillevaerket by Carl Nielsen of our pupil Sophia. This meaningful experience enriched pupils’ understanding of interpretation and performance, while deepening their appreciation of classical music.
