[Meet Our Teachers] The power of a pupil-centred classroom

“Pupils are truly engaged when learning is shaped around their needs and meaningfully connected to the world in which they live. In the English classroom, experiences should be practical and relevant – so that when pupils leave school, they do so with critical thinking, empathy, and the confidence to express their voice.”
This belief lies at the heart of Ms Caroline Sannegadu’s approach to education. As Head of English at Brighton College Vietnam, she is dedicated to cultivating a classroom culture where every pupil feels heard, inspired, and empowered. For her, English is not only about mastering language, but about discovering one’s identity and connecting deeply with the human experience.
Guided by this philosophy, Ms Caroline Sannegadu aspires to develop a rich and humanistic English curriculum that nurtures curiosity, celebrates diverse voices, and encourages thoughtful self-expression. Beginning in Year 7, this journey will gradually prepare pupils not only for IGCSE and IB, but also for the wider challenges and opportunities of life beyond the classroom. Beyond the academic, she also envisions co-curricular experiences that allow pupils to apply their learning creatively and purposefully – deepening their understanding and building confidence in their unique voice.
Ms Caroline Sannegadu holds a degree from Swansea University and a PGCE from the University of Bristol. Before joining Brighton College Vietnam, she taught at North London Collegiate School Jeju in South Korea. She also worked closely with the University of Bristol to support trainee teachers and mentored colleagues across departments – a reflection of her passion for collaborative, progressive education.
