[Meet Our Teachers] “Whether as a pupil or as a teacher, Brighton College has always felt like home”

As one of the founding pupils at Brighton College Bangkok, Ms Jaja Choktanasiri – our new Additional Educational Needs (AEN) Teacher understands profoundly the impact of being genuinely heard and supported. From thoughtful exam adjustments to quiet spaces for reflection, or simply having a teacher who truly listens, these small but significant gestures gave her the confidence to believe: “Every pupil can thrive, given the right support.”

It was these formative experiences that led Ms Choktanasiri to dedicate her professional life to supporting pupils with additional educational needs. She went on to complete both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Manchester, where her exceptional dissertation on provision for autistic pupils was awarded ‘Best Dissertation’ within her cohort. Alongside her academic work, she contributed to several youth initiatives in Manchester and charities in London and worked closely with pupils at Brighton College Bangkok. At the heart of every role she has held is one enduring aim: To create a nurturing environment where every pupil feels valued, understood, and empowered to learn in a way that best suits them.

Now returning to Brighton College this time as a member of staff at our Vietnam campus, Ms Choktanasiri  brings with her not only expertise, but a deep-rooted belief that education is far more than the delivery of content. It is about helping young people discover who they are, recognise their unique strengths, and grow in confidence and self-worth.

One of the initiatives she is particularly excited to introduce at Brighton College Vietnam is a sensory corner – a calm and welcoming space within the classroom where pupils can pause, reset, and return to their learning when ready. As Ms Choktanasiri  explains, “Learning takes place best if pupils’ sensory needs are fundamentally met.”
