Learning by the Sea

We go beyond traditional classroom learning and encourage our pupils to explore the world around them.

Our Beach School offers a comprehensive learning experience, allowing children to discover the natural resources of our beautiful coastal environment.

By immersing themselves in the great outdoors, from Nursery through to Year 8 children gain a deep appreciation and love for learning outdoors. Children are encouraged to explore the natural resources on our doorstep in a setting that supports freedom and inspiration to cultivate a love of outdoor learning.

“We love the way this offers a completely integrated and holistic approach to education.”

Our Beach School Activities

Palaeontology and Dinosaur Discovery

Children can learn about the fascinating world of palaeontology and dinosaurs by digging for fossils and discovering ancient artifacts on the beach. They also participate in educational activities that teach them about different dinosaur species and their characteristics.

Seaside Crafts

Pupils create crafts inspired by the beach, such as seashell wind chimes, painting pebbles and kindness rocks, designing kites, and making sand art. These engaging activities allow the children to explore their artistic side while celebrating the beauty of the beach.

Beachcombing

Our pupils enjoy going on beachcombing adventures, where they collect natural treasures such as seaweed, pebbles and driftwood. These materials are used to create art and to explore the wonders of the shoreline.

Maths and Problem Solving

Pupils can immerse themselves in an exciting and interactive approach to learning mathematics and problem-solving. Through hands-on activities such as counting, sorting, and arranging pebbles, children can develop their understanding of mathematical concepts in a way that is both enjoyable and engaging.

Mindfulness and Yoga

Children participate in yoga and mindfulness sessions on the beach, where they learn how to practice mindful breathing exercises and yoga poses.

Photography and Digital Art

Pupils learn how to capture stunning landscape photos using cameras and then use their photos as inspiration for digital art. They also learn how to sketch their photos and create a digital portfolio to showcase their skills and creativity.

Coastal Art and Creativity

Pupils express their creativity by participating in various art projects inspired by the beach and the ocean. They learn how to create beautiful watercolour paintings of seascapes, make recycled art using natural materials found on the beach, and participate in mixed-media art projects that explore the wonders of the sea.

Rockpooling

Pupils learn about marine life by exploring rockpools and observing creatures such as crabs, starfish, and anemones up close. This hands-on experience allows them to witness these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat and better understand the diverse and wondrous marine life found in rockpools.

Space to Breathe

Yoga is taught from age three, and our children enjoy taking their mindful activities to the beach, facilitating spiritual growth.

By listening to the sounds of the waves and concentrating on their breathing, our pupils enjoy the physical and mental benefits of being in the present moment and focusing on the sounds and sea.
