Pupils’ intellectual curiosity inspires teachers

As Brighton College Vietnam prepares to launch its first IBDP cohort, excitement is building among teachers eager to guide pupils into the next stage of their academic journey.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing our IGCSE pupils transition into the IB programme,” said Mr Simon Taylor, Head of Design and Technology. “The opportunity to dive deeper into their subjects and hone their critical thinking will be a transformative experience. Their intellectual curiosity continues to inspire me.”
Mr Jonathan Wilson, Teacher of Science shared about the approach in IB Biology. “Our pupils will begin to analyse real scientific research, explore current discoveries, and learn how to interpret scientific papers to deepen their understanding,” he said. “This will help them grow into curious, critical thinkers who can question the world around them.”
This spirit of inquiry and growth mindset is already evident in the pupils’ approach to learning. Over the past year, they have demonstrated remarkable progress, not only in academic outcomes but in the mindset they bring to creative challenges. One of the most empowering developments has been their growing confidence in experimentation and perseverance.
“Our pupils have really embraced a trial-and-error approach, especially in open-ended design tasks,” Mr Taylor noted. “They’ve adopted a ‘low-stakes’ mindset when trying new ideas, which allows them to learn from setbacks and continue moving forward. That willingness to adapt and persist will serve them incredibly well, both in the IB and beyond.”
