Pupils put design & engineering skills to the test in the Bridge Challenge

Our Design Technology class recently took on an exciting project – The Great Bridge Challenge where pupils sketched and planned a bridge design. Working in teams, they design various types of structures such as beam, truss, arch, and suspension bridges.
Their structures were judged across different categories: teamwork and communication, creativity, structural strength, span success, use of materials, testing and adaptation, and overall stability. This requires groups to combine engineering know-how with imagination and collaboration.
The challenge is a good opportunity for pupils to practice sketching, problem-solving, and adapting their designs based on testing results. Along the way, they developed valuable skills in planning, communication, and innovation.
