It’s always best to learn science when real experiments unfold right in front of our eyes! Our Year 8 pupils carried out an exciting science experiment investigating how magnesium oxide is formed. Using a strip of magnesium ribbon, tongs, and a Bunsen burner, they observed first-hand the reaction between magnesium and oxygen.

The experiment gave pupils the chance to practise safe lab techniques such as using tongs and wearing eye protection, while also observing the clear differences before, during, and after a chemical reaction. This hands-on activity not only reinforced key concepts about chemical changes and the reactivity of metals but also sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for science in the classroom.
