Key Stage 3

Welcome to Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 is a time of growth, discovery, and increasing independence. As pupils move through these formative years, they build the confidence, skills, and mindset needed for success in Senior School and beyond.

Pupils benefit from a dynamic and engaging learning environment where academic and pastoral support go hand in hand. Progress is proactively monitored, with each pupil encouraged and guided to reach their full potential. Our thoughtfully designed curriculum nurtures curiosity, creativity, and resilience, while our strong pastoral care ensures that every child feels valued, supported, and ready to face new challenges.

Beyond the classroom, pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of co-curricular opportunities that promote personal development, friendship, and the discovery of new interests. Key Stage 3 is also a time when pupils begin to take greater ownership of their learning and build the confidence to contribute positively to the wider school community.

It is an exciting and transformative stage of education – one where pupils are truly prepared to thrive.

Our Subjects

English

The aim is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written language, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.

Science

Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils will be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

World languages

Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures, fostering pupils’ curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world. Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries, to express their ideas and thoughts both in speech and in writing in other languages.
From Early Years, pupils begin their Vietnamese studies, with Mandarin introduced from Year 3. Upon entering the Senior School, their linguistic journey broadens to include French and Spanish.

Computing

Pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Pupils will be digitally literate – able to use and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

The Story of Our Land

A combination of geography and history taught in an integrated way. This is a Brighton College UK developed course which we are pleased to be offering at Brighton College Vietnam.

Presentation skills

A course for Year 9 pupils to learn how to prepare presentations, not only in a traditional format in front of an audience but exploring new ways of delivering digital content to a global audience.

Enterprise

Offered to pupils in Year 7 and 8. This course develops our pupils’ interests in business from a young age and is another special feature of our curriculum at Brighton College Vietnam.

Business

All pupils in Year 9 will take business which leads on nicely from their enterprise lessons in Years 7 and 8.

Design Technology

Our Design Technology workshops and CAD suite support pupils to develop an understanding of manufacturing processes in the 21st century.

Music

Pupils can use our world-class music facilities to learn how to play, compose and appreciate music from different genres and cultures.

Art

Pupils use our outstanding art facilities to become exceptional artists, developing skills of independence and an appreciation for different artistic methods and materials.

Drama

Pupils develop an appreciation of performance and thereby the modern world around them. Many will perform on stage as part of the school productions.

An Innovative Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to prepare children for the challenges of the 21st Century. In addition to Maths and English, pupils will have the opportunity to study languages such as Mandarin and French. Science is taught as three distinct subjects and has dedicated, state-of-the-art facilities. Pupils also study coding and IT, Music, Art, Design Technology, and Drama, while enjoying a broad and varied sports timetable.

Presentation Skills

One of our unique Super Curriculum, covers practical skills such as speech writing, as well as the opportunity to study some of the great speeches of history. Posture, breathing and intonation are all developed as well as voice modulation and speech analysis. We teach all the skills necessary for both formal and informal presentations, to both small and large audiences.

Entrepreneurship Programme

Brighton College UK was the first independent school to include entrepreneurship in its curriculum. Pupils create an original product which they market before industry experts in a Shark Tank style competition. A similar approach is adopted at Brighton College Vietnam.

Beyond the Classroom

A wealth of co-curricular activities (CCAs) with over 65 clubs are available to help pupils develop their interests and passions beyond the curriculum. They provide spaces for creativity, inspiration, challenge, growth and enjoyment. All the children are encouraged to take part in this inclusive enrichment programme and contribute in their own positive unique way.
