At Brighton College Vietnam, our Sixth Form (Years 12–13) offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a globally recognised qualification. Alongside their academic studies, pupils engage with the IB CORE, which includes Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay, developing research, interdisciplinary learning, and essential life skills.

Our Subjects

Pupils are encouraged to consider their interests, future university and career choices, and their strongest IGCSE (or equivalent) results. Each pupil will be guided by the Sixth Form Team, and option choices and recommendations will be discussed with pupils prior to joining Year 12.

Language and Literature

At Brighton College Vietnam, Language and Literature A courses in English and Vietnamese provide an engaging and challenging programme for inquisitive pupils. Through exploring a wide range of global literary and non-literary texts, pupils deepen their appreciation of diverse works, sharpen their critical thinking, and refine their academic writing skills. The course fosters personal interpretation and a profound understanding of how meaning is created and interpreted.

Language Acquisition

Language Acquisition courses (English, Mandarin, Spanish, French, German) at Brighton College Vietnam are designed for pupils with some prior knowledge of the target language. These courses focus on enhancing communication skills through diverse themes, encouraging pupils to engage with familiar and unfamiliar contexts. Higher levels challenge pupils to explore literary works and develop greater complexity and fluency in their language use, fostering both competence and confidence in real-world communication.

Geography

The Geography course at Brighton College Vietnam blends physical and human geography, combining scientific and socio-economic perspectives. History

Sports, Exercise, and Health Science

Sports, Exercise, and Health Science at Brighton College Vietnam combines academic study with practical investigations in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition. Pupils explore physical performance, ethics, and global health issues, gaining skills and insights for further education or careers in sports, fitness, and health industries.

Mathematics

Mathematics two courses: Applications and Interpretation (AI) and Analysis and Approaches (AA). AI focuses on real-world applications, mathematical modelling, and technology, preparing pupils for a data-driven world. AA develops analytical expertise and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts through a balanced and rigorous approach. Both courses cover core topics like algebra, geometry, statistics, and calculus, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Music

Music course fosters creativity through the exploration of diverse musical forms, practices, and contexts. Pupils engage equally as performers, creators, and researchers, developing skills and critical perspectives individually and collaboratively while connecting and experimenting with various musical traditions.

Theatre

Theatre course offers pupils opportunities to explore theatre as creators, designers, directors, and performers. Emphasising both individual and ensemble work, it nurtures creativity through inquiry, development, presentation, and reflection. Pupils engage practically, applying research and theory to their work, gaining a deeper understanding of themselves, their community, and the world through the art of theatre.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts course invites pupils to explore how art conveys ideas and personal insights. Through a curriculum built around three interconnected strands, driven by their interests and passions, pupils select themes like ‘Identity’ or ‘Change’ to create portfolios that showcase their perspectives while honing artistic, IT, and photography skills.

Preparing for University

Pupils in the Sixth Form will be supported by the Head of University Guidance and Careers, as well as by the Head of Sixth Form, the Head of IB, the Deputy Head (Pastoral), and their form tutors as they research, prepare for, and apply to universities.

A number of events will support pupils in this process, including specific subject talks by Heads of Department, a Careers Fair, university talks by experts, showcases from a range of universities, and our IB Fair in the Spring Term, where pupils can learn more about the programme.

As pupils progress through the programme, we will guide them in selecting the best courses and universities for their goals. When choosing Diploma subjects, pupils should consider the entry requirements for university courses they may apply to, including any specific subject combinations.
